Amsterdam: Touring the International Criminal Court

Today we were able to tour the International Criminal Court in Den Haag. It was a beautiful building where we were able to sit in on a very informative discussion. Walking through the city has been absolutely amazing. There are canals and bikes everywhere. I have been going to a lot of cafes to try coffee at different shops. We even got to take a boat tour through the canals and eat cheese! There are so many interesting people to talk to, and I love learning all about them. For the ICC, a worker explained that there are 125 states that are currently parties to the Rome Statute as of 1 January 2025. The Rome Statute is an international treaty that established the ICC, entering force on 1 July 2002. The Court's jurisdiction only covers crimes that are seen as the most serious concerns to the international community. This includes crimes against humanity, genocide, war crimes, and crimes of aggression. I am having an incredible time on this trip, and I have been learning so much! I am so grateful for the  Michael '58 and Aimee Kakos Scholarship that has given me the opportunity to do this.
