Throughout my time in Florence, I have had the privilege of learning about Saints and Catholic Imagination through breathtaking art. One of my most notable memories was climbing to the top of the Duomo with my fellow classmates. Although the 463 steps to the top were quite a workout, it was well worth the effort! I was mesmerized by the intricate details of murals painted on the inside of the dome and the beautiful views of the city on the outside.
Alongside the Duomo, I have also found enjoyment in the many museums we have visited. From the Uffizi to Pitti Palace, museums all across the city of Florence have admirable works of art that bring new life to historic Catholic teachings. Being able to visit such art that I have only read about in books has brought a whole new meaning to my experience abroad, which I am eternally grateful for.
Lastly, one of my favorite things to do in between classes and exploring the city is grabbing gelato with friends. I can’t help but mention some of the amazing food in Italy, including meals like freshly made pasta and Florentine steak. However, in these hot summer months, gelato has to be the winner! Going with my class to cool down, eat delicious dessert, and create memories is a simple yet favorite part of my day.
