Istanbul 2025: My Trip Across Continents

Istanbul, Türkiye a city that spans continents and centuries.

As my journey comes to an end I can't express how grateful I am to get this opportunity. This trip was more than a class, it was a pilgrimage. When I started this class and trip I though I was going to look at a few ancient ruins and connect them back to theology. On my second day I already got a hint that this trip was not that simple. We spent the day in the ancient city of Nicaea, we had an activity where we re- debated the First ecumenical council.

The Next day we went to one of the main squares that hosts the two main mosques, the Hagia Sophia and the Green Mosque. Once visiting these mosques we made our way to the old royal palace. Within the walls if the palace was an old church that was the site of  multiple of the first seven ecumenical councils. we once again had a debate pertaining to the information fought over at that council.

At this point in my trip I Stared to realize that I was experiencing something very special. There are not too many people, let alone christians, that get to go and visit these kinds of sites. These sites are the physical locations where the most important doctrine in the christian faith were fought over and decided. I am extremely grateful to be able to experience it  and if anyone has the opportunity to I would highly recommend taking the time to go and do it.
