Our second day in Istanbul was one to remember!! Being able to not only visit the site but also recreate the council of Nicaea was something I will keep with me for the rest of my life. A lot of the times these council sites were based on location and weather, as you can see in the picture it was beautiful!! Not only were we able to recreate the council of Nicaea at the council site but we had the once in a lifetime opportunity of meeting a a man that was imprisoned by the Taliban and he was so interested that he stayed to watch us debate. As a catholic, I was honored to be standing in the same place the pope was standing just about a month ago. After this council the Nicene creed was adopted and its states, "We believe in one God the Father Almighty, creator of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible,And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of God, the only-begotten, who was begotten of the Father before all ages, light from light, true God from true God, begotten not created, consubstantial with the Father, by whom all things were made; And in the Holy Spirit, who is the Lord and giver of life, who proceeds from the Father, who with the Father and the Son is co-adored and co-glorified, who has spoken through the prophets." This was an amazing day and after we celebrated with some fantastic doner kebab at a local Turkish restaurant. Writing this blog post reminds me how grateful I am to be on this trip and it wouldn't be possible without my scholarship!!
