Paris: A Day at Fondation Louis Vuitton – Exploring Luxury in a Different Way

Today I went to Fondation Louis Vuitton for a luxury marketing assignment where we’re supposed to explore what “luxury” looks like in Paris.

Honestly, I thought it was just going to be about fashion, but it ended up being way more than that. Even the building itself felt like part of the experience. The architecture is kind of crazy, and it made me realize that in luxury, the setting matters just as much as what’s inside.

One part that stood out to me was a display of random everyday objects like a camera, cassette, and a spray can, but they were presented like they were something really important. It made me think about how luxury isn’t always about the object itself, but more about how it’s presented and perceived.

There were also pieces focused on materials and textures, which felt very different from what I usually think of as luxury. It wasn’t about logos or brands, but more about design, detail, and uniqueness. That’s something I’ve been noticing more here, luxury in Paris feels more subtle and less obvious than in the U.S.

Overall, this visit kind of changed how I think about luxury. It’s not just expensive things, it’s also about the experience, the design, and the story behind something.

I’m really glad I got to do this while studying abroad. Being in Paris and actually experiencing this stuff in person makes everything we talk about in class feel way more real.
