A day at the York Minster
Today was our first full day in York. The first thing we had to see was The York Minster because it is one of the most gorgeous buildings in York, and honestly the first thing that catches your eye as soon as you step into York. When we arrived we walked around the Minster and took in all of the beauty it had to offer. What we learned during our time there was that the Minster was a gothic style Cathedral, which was a very popular style of architecture during the medieval times in Europe, as wekk as it being one of the best examples of that specfic style. The Cathedral took over 250 years to build and is till one of the finest architectures Europe has to offer. What I found the most interesting and beautiful was the stained glass windows. Dr, Edwards told us that the stained glass colors cannot be replicated today because the color they used was so distinct, and I thought that was very interesting. After we toured the minster we walked up 275 steps to the top of the Cathderal and took in the amazing view. Seeing York from that high up was magical and an amazing experience. It was cool to see the architecture of the stiars as well because it was very narrow and steep and you wonder how people back in the Medeival times did that. There were also mutiple bodies of saints and archbishops buried in the Minster and it was intresting to see the design of their tumbstone. My favorite piece of art was a man who passed away but his feet were on top of a dog. That was my favorite, because the reason his feet were on the dog was because the dog resembled playful and silliness and it was nice and enjoyful to see that. The York Minster was my favorite part of the trip because I felt like I learned so much within the first day and it started our trip off with a high!
