Maine: Day 3 Perkins Island

We started off our day with a quick light breakfast before heading out onto the water at 8am. We piled into kayaks and canoes, ready to take on the 3 mile trip to Perkins Island.

What we assumed, and we're told, would be a nice easy ride, turned out to be more adventurous than we thought. The winds got really rough and we lost a few boaters on the way, but ended up pushing through the currents and making it to the island.

Once we got to the island we docked out boats and started hiking up to the lighthouse on the other side. Since a few of us were freezing cold from falling out of our boats, we circled up and made a fire. We started discussing our faith and our beliefs and heard a short lecture from Professor Francis while enjoying our packed lunch.

After spending a few hours on the island, we headed back to the main land to wash up and relax before having individual cabin dinners.

During dinner, we reflected on our trip and read a few of Thoreau's poems to write about in our journals.
