Maine: Days 4, 5, & 6

Day 4 Sunday: Meditation

We met up in the morning for our usual family breakfast. We discussed the poems that we reflected on in Thoreau's book. After breakfast we circled up outside awaiting a guest speaker. When our speaker arrived, Justin Park, to talk to us about meditation and religion, we all gathered in a circle around him.

We heard about his story and discussed for a few hours discovering new things about Buddhism, meditation, and self reflecting on our own religious beliefs.

After our discussion with Justin Park, we all went to our cabins to get ready for a group dinner at Kennebec, and met in the woods around 8 to have a group bonfire and make snores and read Pilgrim at Tinker Creek by Annie Dillard.

Day 5 Monday: Self reliance

After our morning breakfast, we got our on the kayaks to go through the marshes. Once we got too the other side of the woods we go out and went on a hike without trails. We ending up finding a porcupine hanging in a tree and a bunch of vegetation we have never seen before.

After our hike we headed back to shower before our Memorial Day Cookout. We all brought a meal to contribute to the dinner and played corn hole, wiffle ball, and other fun games. We then made our own homemade Icecream with an old fashioned Icecream maker.

Day 6: Tuesday Simplicity

We met up for our usual morning breakfast and meditation. This day was our Day of simplicity which consists of no phones and no lights. After our morning meditation we went back to our cabins to read Ellen And Scott Nearing's book about their journey back to the land.

After we met up in the great room and grounded our own wheat berries to make flour and make our own home made bread. While we were waiting for it to bake we set up for our Back to the land panel to arrive.

When they came we heard about all their individual stories on what was going on during that time period and why they decided to move back to the land. We then found out a lot about their journey and goals and hardships and asked them many questions.
