THURSDAY JANUARY 4TH

After an 11.5 hour flight, 40 minute layover, another 3 hour flight, 50 minute bus ride and one room switch - we are finally in INDIA! This was our first day in India and we hit the ground running. The day started a bit foggy but after we had breakfast and some much needed naps, we headed into Delhi and drove by the president and VP's house’s as well as parliament on our way to the India Gate. The gate is a war memorial to honor those in the Indian army who fought and lost their lives in the First World War. After this quick photo opt we made our way to the beautiful Swaminarayan Akshardham temple. This is a newer temple and the amount of detail and intense decorative figures and designs along the outsides were astonishing. Unfortunately we were unable to take pictures but a picture would not do this place justice. We all struggled a little figuring out what to eat but soon learned everything has some type of spice in it and that no matter how many times someone explained to you what you were ordering, you were still unsure. We quickly learned that the traffic here is worse than NYC. Yes you read that right, worse than NYC. Jet Lag called it an early night for us but stay tuned for the rest of the trip.  The title of this post is the pronunciation for the name of the city where we will be for the next 4.5 days.

Some fast facts about India that our tour guide shared with us:
83% of the population is Hindu - how have about 330 million Gods
India’s national game is Field Hockey
Every city in India has a MG road
India is 1/3 the land mass of the United States but 4x the population

This is a picture of us at the India Gate. More to come!
