Madrid Old Town

Even though I have not been in Madrid for long, I think the nicest area of the city is also the oldest part, the Centro De Madrid, the city center. This is an area that was first constructed and is bordered by major landmarks such as the Royal Palace and the Buen Retiro Park.

Our tour guide has taken us around the Centro and pointed out different neighborhoods and important sites. What I find so special about this neighborhood is that there are buildings older than the United States as a country. That is something special about a city like Madrid, even though our tour guide explained Madrid is actually new by European standards.

Along with our guide, we Manhattan students toured the Lavapiés neighborhood, which is part of the Centro. It shows this how old the area is, with its crowded and narrow streets.

The Centro is a great place to go shopping, eat, and just walk the street, which people love to do here in Spain.
