A Busy Day in Singapore

On January 9th, our group started our day at 9 am to visit the renowned brand called Yakult. Yakult is a Japanese sweetened probiotic milk beverage fermented with the bacteria strain Lacticaseibacillus.. The name "Yakult" originates from 'jahurto,' an Esperanto word meaning "yogurt."

After a tour of the Yakult factory, we headed to the hot spring. Some of us sat in the sun, while others dipped their feet in the naturally heated water. Returning on the bus, Dr. Shah noticed some of us were tired, allowing us to go back to the hotel for lunch at Burgis Hotel or a nap. My roommate Meghan and I went to the mall for a classic Japanese lunch. I ordered sushi, beef and rice, soup, and salad, while Meghan opted for sashimi.

After a power nap and a change of clothing, we prepared for our next adventure, a local Singapore business tour with Let's Go Tour. Established in 2013, they offer various unique tours, including bike tours, boat tours, walking tours, food tours, nature tours, learning journeys, and experiential tours with theatrical elements. Later, some of us asked our tour guide Jerome for a unique dinner spot. We took the bus to a local hawker center, where I enjoyed Singaporean rice and chicken, and a big bowl of spicy ramen, all for 7 Singaporean dollars. The food was the highlight of the trip, with the hawker center ranking high on my list. Afterward, we took the metro back to the hotel. Coming from New York City, the Singapore metro impressed us with its cleanliness and safety, taking only 10 minutes to reach the hotel. I rested and chatted with Meghan before getting ready to meet our entire study-abroad group at a recommended bar called Alas. There, we shared our favorite moments of the trip and got to know each other better, including the professor. It was undeniably one of the highlights of the journey. Overall, it was an incredible and highly productive day.
