Yesterday marked the one month anniversary of me being trapped here in Rome. (cue canned fake multi-cam sitcom laugh track) Okay, so trapped is a bit harsh, bad comedic timing but nonetheless, it's been a month since I packed up my stuff in a tiny suitcase and traveled across the globe to Italy. With the nerves gone and the anxiety melted away, I'm in a place now where I can honestly reflect on my time here so far and quite truthfully, it's been really fun but SUCH AN ADJUSTMENT. Here's a few things:
- Sidewalk: TO THIS DAY my blood blister has not left my foot. I checked last night and it's still a purple big blob right under my toe and now it's peeling. I blame the sidewalks here. Who in their right mind thought that having cobblestone sidewalks was the way to execute walking space on the roads? Death becomes you because having me trip, slip, and fall is not fun and not for the weak.
- Apartment: I actually like my apartment, I'm used to it. Thankfully I only live with 2 other guys (Nick and Joe) and even though the 3 of us all come from NYC, they're soooo different from me. One's so intelligent that I get nervous when I sound stupid and the other reminds me of a caterpillar turning into a butterfly, bursting out of the bubble and exploring the world. The washer's loud and I think it's going to break every time it's on, and the shower is small that I feel claustrophobic BUT the hot water HOT WATERS. The drying racks makes me feel like a slave with old school ways of life, but I'm getting accustomed to it. Grocery shopping is fun and all because the food's cheaper and healthier, but I promise all I eat is a rotation of toast, ham & cheese sandwiches, waffles, pancakes, or chicken nuggets. It's never different unless I eat out, so that's how my life is going in that world.
- Classes: My cinema class is honestly the most chill class, all we do is either go on field trips to film sites, music studios, famous neighborhoods, special effects houses, and more OR stay in class and watch movies. Today we watched The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly. Didn't pay attention due to me applying to summer internships, but it's going good. My publishing class is such a joke, SUCH A JOKE. All I do is play Cool Math Games, literally. My acting class, I love it because it reminds me of theater games I did growing up, but now we're focusing on our midterms which is a up to 5 minute scene with a partner. I'm doing a scene from The Prom with "my bestie Mia" (her words). Comedy class, so slow and kind of boring, but very informative. My drama class, the class I absolutely didn't want to take is surprisingly my favorite class. I love it so much, he's the professor that I would take over and over again.
- Clubs: FFC is actually going to be the death of me, but that's fine. Out of the 10 student films in production, I'm involved in 5. Acting in 3, editing 2, directing 2, camera operating, sound operating, boom mic-ing, sound designing, production assisting, it's going to be BUSY BUSY BUSY. I start this weekend, then next weekend, then next weekend, then spring break in Paris, then a whole bunch of editing. Can't wait :) DAC, we're starting rehearsals tomorrow and I can't wait to get started on that.
